Kitanga (Special Needs)

Do you have an enormous urge to help?

Do you want to do something truly important and hugely rewarding?

Then come and work with Kitanga’s special needs children and see what a big difference you can make.

The Special Needs Education Centre (SNEC) is nestled amongst the beautiful terraced hills of Kitanga, about an hour from the town of Kabale in south west Uganda. SNEC is now home to around 60 children with various special needs and learning difficulties.

In addition to our usual volunteer activities here we are hoping to attract some specialist volunteers experienced in occupational therapy, speech and language therapy and physiotherapy and to assist with teacher training.

VOLUNTEER ACTIVITIES can include a combination of Teaching, Games and Sports, Building/Renovation, Gardening and more.

Here the accommodation is alongside the teachers’ houses. There are two small houses each with two rooms (bedroom and sitting room), each house sleeps four people. There is also a small private garden. There is electricity at SNEC  but not in the houses, you will be provided with oil lamps and candles.

There is a hotplate in the house for food preparation. Volunteers are responsible for buying their own food and cooking and it is also possible to join the children and teachers and eat in the dining room.

The houses have their own latrine and a washing area, they can also use the showers provided for the boarders.
